Meet David Oun of Mother Clucker
Being born in a family that specializes in the restaurant industry, I was always around food, people, and family. That was the premise for starting Mother Clucker. I wanted to have a place where there was good food for everyone to gather and to enjoy with their friends and families. After eating out at many fried chicken dining establishments, I noticed a common theme missing at all of them. They were all missing out on something small, whether it was tasteless or over breaded tenders, offering only one kind of fries, offering limited sauce options, or not having dessert.
I set out to create something different, something with everything that is missing. Starting with fresh jumbo chicken tenders, we marinate for a minimum of 12 hours, hand-breaded hand-battered and made to order. Then with eight different options of fries and seven different sauces. Finally, with the State Fair Desserts, we all know and love from Fried Oreos to Funnel Cake, Fried Twinkies and Fried Snickers to Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches. I set out to have a place that I would be happy and proud to call my own.
I chose Colleyville, TX to be the founding site of the Mother Clucker because I saw something in Colleyville that I have missed in a very long time. A small-town feel in the heart of DFW. The central location makes it very accessible to everyone around and the town is more than just a community; it’s an extended family. From day one of opening my doors, everyone has been so welcoming and friendly, it is a great place to grow and expand. I hope there are many more years to come.
It has been extremely challenging to open Mother Clucker. From our grand opening being delayed a whole month because of equipment failure, and horrible construction that is constantly delayed, to backlash from a few more conservative citizens about the Mother Clucker name. It has been a huge struggle to stay afloat. Also, to adapt to the diets of this area and the changing times, we even started adding grilled chicken options plus a salad option.
Mother Clucker is a fun casual dining experience with one of the best chicken tenders you will ever eat, if not the best. We serve eight different cuts of fries and seven diverse dipping sauces. Best of all, we have State Fair Desserts, including funnel cake, fried Oreos, fried PP&J, and even fried twinkies. We also serve a chicken tender sandwich that rivals both Chick-fil-A and Popeyes, an amazing southwest grilled chicken salad, and super unique bone-in wings. What we’re most proud of is that we have choices. I like to compare it to a Build-A-Bear with chicken tenders. What sets us apart is always fresh hand-battered and marinated in house chicken tenders, and state fair desserts that rival the state fair.
For me as a restaurant, first and foremost is customer satisfaction. They must be happy for me to feel like I’ve done my job well. From there is definitely how good the food is. I might be slightly biased but I’ve been eating it for seven months straight now and even till now I still love it and try to find new ways to improve it. Finally, like any business around it must be at least stable and not losing money. This is actually the most difficult part for me to achieve especially being new and trying to enter a very established industry.
