Meet Tara Wilson-Mugabe of 4ClaimedRoots
I was in a place of exploration. I wanted to know more about my heritage. I discovered that I am 17 percent Indigenous American and 83 percent Sub-Saharan African.
My next desire was to learn to sew. I signed up for classes and studied for more than a year. In my sewing journey I decided to begin to make my own creations to sell. I use African, Indigenous American and American fabrics. So far, it’s been a hit.
I would say things are going really well. I have been moving slowly and enjoying the experience of owning and growing my own business. I have plenty to learn and it’s exciting!
My company is a representation of my family and heritage. There are 4 of us and we are well versed in our roots and family tree.
I’m proud of my company name and I put that same pride into my creations.
I believe my fabric combinations set me apart and truly makes for something all together different in aesthetic.
I define success to me is stability and a constant flow ingenuity. My criteria for success is keeping up the stamina to sustain stability and creativity.
