Meet Dodge Williams
When I was younger, I would hang out in my dad’s classroom as he taught a psychology class at a local community college.
After those classes, we would go to his office and I’d always see these yellow page doodles up on his bookshelf. That is when my curiosity of linework and creativity came about.
Over the years, I crafted my abilities and visions and now consistently create paintings on a daily basis. It took me many years to actually put paint onto canvas tho or even feel comfortable applying pen to paper but something clicked in late 2015 and I haven’t looked back since.
I am playing a forever game, the process is priceless and I will be doing this for a long time… I am learning how to enjoy each canvas for what it is and not worry about selling or showing. I want to keep painting for the joy of it and never lose the concept of freedom in my work.
Dodge Williams represents the passion and freedom, for children and adults alike, to explore, expand the boundaries of human experience and engage the mind in finding solutions. Dodge Williams exists to propel the idea that visions in real life can be transformed into feelings, integrating this idea allows this exposed to my work to form impressions and develop meaning personal to their life experience.
There are many common societal themes expressed through the paintings: love and hate, money and greed, passion, exploration and questioning. The aim of Dodge Williams is to relate to people using paint, creating a bridge that allows people to immerse themselves in familiar scenes with a new perspective.
My proudest moments have come when I’ve had the opportunity to bridge art and community. I’ve been able to collaborate with kids and adults ranging from ages 4- 60, from all spectrums and ethnicities. Those moments are when I feel my art made an impact. Small actions such as letting them apply paint, or letting them roll the background colors. Everyone wants to be part of a process. Something as simple as listening to their explanation of a painting they created at home is so energizing for me.
success to me is based on happiness. If you are happy you are successful. For me waking up and creating brings joy to myself. The trick is to bring joy to yourself as well as others, we have to bridge the gap so everyone can see/ feel the vision one has.
