Meet Tangela H of Unique Visions
While enrolled in college, I literally lost everything I had except for my car and clothes. At the time, I was studying Information Technology with a focus on Digital Media. I hopped from place to place, not willing to give up on what God told me to do. One day I began to admire the nature around me – the flowers, the birds, the sky and the sounds. That day I had about $400 in my account. I knew I had to make something shake, so I went to the pawnshop and bought a $150 camera. That very day I began capturing the things around me. I eventually got good enough that I began to charge. I called that business “Tangela Hurley’s Photography & Digital Media”. Being that my education granted me the knowledge to create in different arenas, I eventually added logos, graphics, and T-shirts to my business. Today my business is called Unique Visions, where my mission is to assist in making visions into realities.
The road has been as bumpy and pothole-filled as the streets of our great city, Atlanta. If I were extremely honest, I walked away from business as a whole in 2014. I proclaimed, “I will never own another business again!” My biggest obstacle has been my heart because it knows no business. At one time, I had no contracts, structures or systems; this resulted in me not getting paid a multitude of times. One day a mentor looked me in my eyes and said something that changed my life “People won’t take you seriously until you take you seriously. Develop this thing as if it is a fortune 500 company”. This very statement gave me the spark I needed. Since I relaunched in 2017, it has been smooth sailing!
Unique Visions specialize in content creation, whether that be physical or digital. We create logos, shirts, marketing material, websites, and so much more. The thing that makes me happy about this business, in particular, is that its ever-expanding. When one person sees the output, they are so excited they tell a friend or five. To see people satisfied with the works of my imagination and hands makes me extremely happy.
What sets me apart from many others is my ability to connect no matter who you are. Many people find me and what I do a bit differently because I am able to take a simple idea or phrase and make it an extraordinary piece of art.
Success for me is not defined by dollars but by lives. How many lives can I touch on a yearly basis? Many do not have the knowledge or money to get their idea off the ground and it is my goal to help the underdogs’ dream become tangible. Many people, like myself, will give up on themselves and their hopes and dreams so it’s my goal [every day] to successfully help others produce. At least one idea that’s made a successful business is the criteria of success for me.
