Meet Mariasa S of Makeup Artistry by MARIASA
I started my journey honestly by not getting into law school. Being an attorney was my life long dream and once it didn’t happen I fell into a state of depression. I got my makeup done a few times to feel better and after that I was like I’m about to buy makeup and figure this out, maybe start a youtube for fun. Once I got good my friends told me to start taking clients so I was like hey I could make some cash why not, right? Fast forward two years in I was taking clients for prom and still calling people to come to my house to let me practice on them I found that I wasn’t happy with how the makeup was looking on everyone so I enrolled into an esthetics program so I could learn about the skin, skin types and how to take care of each so my makeup applications would become seamless in style no matter what the skin issue.
I’ve spent the last 5 years learning and gaining knowledge not only about makeup but skincare, Brazilian waxing, eyelash extensions, chemical peels, food and nutrition for skin concerns and overall wellness as Reiki healing and tons more. It took me a some time to weave out what I wanted to offer but now I offer makeup, skincare, Brazilian waxing and reiki healing as a freelancer.
Whew, not at all. I wish it would have been a little smoother but I’m actually greateful for the challenges I’ve been through. At first I just wanted to be a makeup artist but about a year or two years in I decided that I really wanted to help people transform their skin care concerns and conditions into healthy glowing skin. It took longer than I expected honestly because I’m a quick learner but pivoting my audience into skincare and now other things I offer such as body waxing and Reiki healing into my business is a constant task. I have many talents and I’ve had to go through the process (many times) of deciding which of those talents should take priority for the benefit of my clients as well as myself. The struggle overall allowed me to grow and really focus on what I wanted my brand to represent, who I’d like to serve and narrow down the type of services that I offer.
Makeup was my original passion. I would say i’m mostly known for my no makeup makeup looks. Being that the focal part of my brand is letting ones beauty shine I believe that no makeup looks set me apart. I ask every client/model what look are they going for. The response is usually, “well I don’t know i’ve ever been asked that”. I explain to them that I like to involve them in the process so they can get exactly what they want. What features do they like or not like most about themselves, what would they like or not like covered up. Involving them in these decisions i’ve found always leaves them happy and satisfied in the end. This also allows me space to educate them when they say well I don’t like the texture or dark spots. During application I do mini consultations for skincare as well as products suggestions and what they can ditch in their current routine. I can’t tell you how many times i’ve finished doing makeup and they smile and say ” omg yes this is exactly what I wanted, to be made up but look like myself not someone else”. A lot of times us as artists have an eye for how we’d like you to look but the perspective of a service provider is to provide the client with what they want or feel they need. So I believe this approach along with educating the client is what sets me apart.
Skincare, although not my first passion it is defiantly my greatest passion. I focus a large amount of time to educating myself and gaining more knowledge on skincare ingredients and services outside of what I learned in esthic school. With skincare everyone is different, everyone. It’s not a one size fits all kind of thing at all, I mean everyone is different, even if they share the same skin type no two clients are the same. I’m passionate about helping both men and women find great routines at their preferred price points because although I love luxury products not everyone is interested in that. Most people just want a routine that is simple and will give them the results they desire. I’ve recently been working on a list of great affordable result driven skincare items that i’ll have a page dedicated to once my website relaunches.
I also offer Reiki healing which involves clearing the 7 chakras of any stagnate energy that may be lingering around and it leave you relaxed and feeling lighter. The cool thing about this service is that you don’t necessarily need to meet with me in person. Reiki can be sent from distances so distance healing is an option as well. I preform this service on myself and it’s defiantly relaxing and decompression and helps me stay grounded and present.
Personally success to me is being able to help people feel comfortable with who they truly are. Be it by just slightly enhancing their everyday look to aiding them in feeling less stressed in a Reiki session.
Feeling successful to me is feeling good about the choices i’ve made for my business after every client, failure, or obstacle that has come my way. Figuring out a way to make the experience better than it was before and understanding why what i’ve done perviously wasn’t the best decision.
If I am constantly learning and growing that’s success to me.
