Meet Phillip Gilchrist
I began to take an interest in music when I was 6 years old. I played the drums in church for over 12 years and also started to take an interest in singing. Because my dad was a music major in college, he made sure that I always practiced and became the best musician that I could be. As the years went by, I started to pick up on guitar, both electric and acoustic, piano, percussion and all the brass section. When I was in my middle school years, I performed at Disney as the act Simba, from The Lion King. I did many performances for the school as well, which included, pep rallies, dinner banquets and benefit concerts. High school approached and I started to take music more seriously. To set myself apart from other musicians, I began to study jazz composition, different genres of music and the laws of music theory. Since there were laws to music, I wanted to make my music stand out by BREAKING the laws of theory and began to create my own unique sound. Ever since I’ve made this discovery, I am blessed to say that I have performed with many different artist around the world, at Carnegie Hall and have also done some work with Pepsi and the Make A Wish Foundation. I have also been able to develop powerful connections with top music executives around the world.
I have had some struggles along the way. Being a pop musician, it was really hard to share the deep thoughts and emotions I had long ago and still have today. Especially in my middle school, high school years, I was the type of person that wanted to fit in with the crowd. I thought that sharing my feelings would make me unpopular. It was a hard thing for me to except at the time. As I started to sing or create music based off of what made me feel a certain way, I had more confidence in the long run. Doing so, I was able to play the lead roles in every musical that I auditioned for such as , Hairspray, Guys and Dolls, Beauty And The Beast, etc.
I own a company called MPProductions. We take upcoming musicians or beginners and teach them how to play piano, drums, guitar, brass instruments, music production, music composition, music theory, and vocal training. We believe that it is extremely important for a musician to understand how to put it together, break it down, and put it together again. What makes us stand out is that we train you how WE want. It doesn’t matter about your vocal skills or music skills. Whether you’re a pro or beginner, we will not rest until you are satisfied with yourself musically.
I define success as persistence, confidence, perfecting your craft, consistency, and criticism. I believe as a musician, all of these should be key. A lot of musicians that want to make it big define success as becoming famous. I see it TOTALLY different. My father always reminded me of something after I made a song. He said “Money will ALWAYS be there, opportunities come and go”. I have never forgotten that. If you are DETERMINED…. YOU WILL NEVER LOSE!
