Meet Coach Kendall Mooney

I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia. I started coaching football after serving as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy. I knew coaching was something that I always wanted to do, but I underestimated how much of an impact one could have in this line of work. After the military, I started out coaching the San Diego Surge women’s football team which was very beneficial because it really pushed me to learn more about the game and how to effectively teach. I was fortunate enough from there to meet the right people to be able to get into the high school game.

Definitely not! One of the biggest challenges was my course work starting out. I am in school full time, so balancing school work with coaching responsibilities was definitely something I had to get a handle on. Also in my first year, I had just welcomed a son into the world as well. With little access to child care, he had to come to pretty much everything with me. It was a bit difficult at first but the coaches at University City were very accommodating, and the parents were even better. They loved him out there and took great care of him as well.

I work with Elite Raw Talent based in Atlanta Georgia. We work on evaluating student athletes and assist them in their recruiting process free of charge. We also host an annual All American game that includes stellar athletes looking to compete at the next level. Our goal is to find and assist as many kids that may not have a means of gaining exposure themselves, or help them get the ball rolling in their recruiting process.

I also am working with the Daygo Dawgs currently. An offseason 7v7 program based in San Diego, California that works to mentor and train young student athletes during the off season. We provide an environment for young athletes to progress through the game they enjoy playing. We compete in tournaments across the West Coast. Unfortunately, since the outbreak of COVID-19, our season this year was cancelled, so all of our efforts have been refocused to making sure our guys finish the school year strong and are in the best position possible to dominate this upcoming season

I also coach with the San Diego Rebellion, a women’s tackle football team also based in San Diego. Like our Daygo Dawgs though, the season was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Finally, I serve as the Defensive Coordinator and one of the Recruiting Coordinators as Crawford High School. I recently accepted this position, and I am excited to get to work!

I have a small project that I have been working on as well that I hope to share with everyone before the year is out!

Personally, to me success is measured by the players that I help. I need to know that they didn’t just advance in the game because of my coaching them, but I need to know that I’ve given them some sort of life lesson to carry with them. Be it an improvement in their work ethic, them feeling like they’ve been supported through a portion of their journey, or giving them the skills they require to support a family and lifestyle. For me, money will come as I properly apply my passion; but knowing I’ve helped my players even when they have left from under my coaching, that equals success to me.
