Meet Chris Sobchack of Wraptastic Productions
My wife and I originally met in NY and reconnected here in Los Angeles when she decided to move and focus on the film and television world. I grew up in an academic film family and I have worked in the music industry for almost all of my life. Fatefully we attended a charity casino night for the Directors Caucus where I won a silent auction for my wife to have a lunch with the late great Garry Marshall. He and his right hand executive, Heather Hall, instantly became family. Garry’s advice was to write and produce your own stories! We’ve tried to honor his wisdom ever since. Wraptastic Productions was born out of those words and has given us a platform to write, produce, and create all kinds of content that hopefully educates and entertains our audience.
The arts are never a smooth road at all, but if you don’t work hard to achieve your lofty goals you will never reach the stars. For us, it’s been tough to finally have secured financing for both our first feature film “Lore Harbour” and the highly anticipated second season of our original shortform comedy “Please Tell Me I’m Adopted!” only to have to postpone due to the industry wide shutdown from Covid! But Nikki and I know that every “overnight success” is really the culmination of years of work being in the right place at the right time and that regardless of the virus causing delays that we’re going to get there!
Wraptastic Productions is an independent production company started in 2013. We use our platform to bring great entertainment to the world. Our goal is to run the company as a family with all our vendors, staff, and collaborators joining us for the long haul. Because Nikki and I have worn every single hat from writing, producing, filming, post production, and all the way to final distribution to create and deliver our shows it has given us a true understanding of what our team goes through and needs from us to be their best.
We have our shortform comedy series, “Please Tell Me I’m Adopted!” which can currently be seen on Amazon Prime, Tubi, and the new special “Quarantine Season 1.5 which was shot entirely virtually is currently airing exclusively on our YouTube channel. This special season started with our two writers and lead actors, Nicole and Ben Kacsandi’s opposite coast collaboration that while filming stretched from LA, NYC, Atlanta, and even across the Atlantic to our amazing Guest Star Lukas Sauer in Germany. Heather Hall is now one of our trusted producers along with Cheryl M Marshall & Joachim Zell. You will definitely keep seeing these same names on our productions!
Once we feel it’s safe and have our safety protocols in place we are excited to head into pre-production on “Lore Harbour” which is a paranormal thriller written by Nicole and Suzanne Rydz (Suz is also a principal actress in “Please Tell Me I’m Adopted!”) and will be shot in upstate New York in the spring.
After that we have a true-life biopic of the first woman to stand up to the US government about the possible health issues from being down wind during the Nevada nuclear testing. “Fallout” as it’s tentatively titled is a fantastic mix of “Silkwood” and “Erin Brockovich” and a story that needs to be told.
As a company we are most proud of the way we always try to honor our team. Helping a long time background actor finally be SAG/AFTRA eligible, being sure that our crew is well fed and has a frosty adult beverage in their hand after a long day of shooting, or being sure to use the same great team time and time again. We believe the old adage that hard work and loyalty beget hard work and loyalty.
For Nikki and I success is being able to find a great balance between our business goals and our personal life with our amazing 10-month-old daughter Dylan Christine Sobchack! Success is putting together a team of people that make going to work a pleasure and knowing that our art has made our audiences laugh, cry, scream or think about an important issue.
