I’ve always had a thing for photography. I cannot remember a time in my life where I didn’t have a camera of some sort in my possession. According to my parents, I have always had an eye for capturing the most beautiful images and would buy me those disposable cameras anytime I used one up. Eventually they bought me a digital camera and my passion grew rapidly.
How did I start doing art? Honestly, at a very young age. I used to draw when I was a very little girl and was taught by my grandmother. I was also singing at very young age. Every time I would take a photo as a little girl, I was always posing like I was a model. All these artistic traits carried on withe as I got older. With a lot of hard work and dedication I was able to start making a name for myself. I started as coming out as a singer/songwriter, then moved into modeling and now I’m a full time artist. It’s a blessing to be able to wake up everyday and do the things I love.
I have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, which influences what I do right now, but doesn’t really relate with what I do for a living.
I learned almost everything I know about my current career in an unlikely way: by blogging. In 2016, when my daughter started daycare, I hadn’t worked for four years and needed something to occupy my time. So I asked my husband (a web master) to set up a website for me, and I started writing under a pen name – E. L. Lane.
After about six months of blogging, I joined the South Florida Bloggers, and later, the South Florida Mom Bloggers. I started making connections with people in the blogging community, and learning professional skills, at their monthly meetups. I kept attending meetups and learning and growing. Last year, I became the “Social Media Manager and Editor” for the South Florida Mom Bloggers, and continue to run their social media and write recaps of the meetups.
At the beginning of 2019, I made my mind up to somehow make money from blogging, and worked hard to sell my services as a copywriter. Later, I realized that being a blogger had taught me to create a personal brand, so I started offering the service of refining the look, language, and feel of a brand.
At the end of 2019, I decided to join forces with my husband, Luis Quevedo, and we now run Art Spark Design together, he as the Web Master, and I as the Director of Branding and Social Media. I have worked on creating branded content for social media and various websites. And together, we create websites, and branded images and written content, for small businesses.
Thanks so much for taking the time to meet with me today! My name is Kendra Muecke from “Kendra & the Bunnies” Music. I am a singer-songwriter, writer, actress, and published author based in Los Angeles, CA. My passion for all things music, art, literature, and film began in my hometown of Houston, TX. At the spry age of 4, I turned to my mom and said, “I want to be a movie-star!” I was serious too! The next week, I began taking classes there, and I immediately fell in love with the stage. In my teen years, I began writing poetry and started a serious relationship with literature. Around this time, I also discovered rock ‘n roll music. Bands like Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane, and CCR were my go-to songs to belt out with a band at places like Camp Jam. For college, I attended Pepperdine University, where I studied *drum roll* Theatre Arts (Acting). Studying the theatre on that scale was fantastic for my spiritual development and intuitive studies. I learned about the roots of acting, and why we ritualize performance in many ways. This lead me on a healing journey, where I created a workshop that combined psychic development and improvisational acting. I held this workshop in 2017 at Sonic Bloom Music Festival. During this time, I published my first 340 page book titled “The Politics of”. It felt like there was more to do though, and I began to channel my feelings into playing guitar. In 2019, I decided singing and songwriting was a pathway to venture. The writing, the singing, the guitar, the theatre, it all translates into my music. Thus, “Kendra & the Bunnies”Music was founded.
I got started in photography in high school at the age of 15. I was always a visual artist and took photography as an elective. I started out with a 35 mm camera & had to buy film for each shoot way before digital cameras were the actual norm. Moving forward I got into the music business and began as a producer, video editor, recording artist, and engineer as well. Before I knew it I was creating photos for my peers and myself. I started doing wedding photography in 2017 and decided to do an exclusive brand for women and couples. Seeing the positive impact I had on my 1st boudoir client actually gave me the idea to start my own empowering boudoir brand called… H U E B O U D O I R.
I first started off free styling with the homies when I was young , in the 6th or 7th grade eventually I started to take this music career serious After I knew I had a talent, now I’m just working hard to get to the top.
I was into music and entertainment at a young age. When I was little I would make stages out of boxes and dress up in whatever I could find in the closet. Then I would performs skits and concerts for my mom and grandma. It wasn’t until middle school that I joined choir for the first time. I loved it. So there was never a year after that that I wasn’t in a choir. In high school I began rapping as a hobby but began to take it seriously when I got major positive reviews from it. And eventually I came out with my first single titled “Pineapples” near the end of my senior year.
It all started in Tarzana, CA. I grew up in a great community in Tarzana (a suburb of Los Angeles) and was very fortunate to have a tremendous support system that helped shape me and my trajectory. I grew up on Veloz Ave., and when I decided to leave the corporate world and start a business, I partnered with my brother and we named it The Veloz Group. Amazingly, it has been eight years, filled with too many experiences to list, but each one has helped me grow personally and professionally.
It all started with just a microphone in my kitchen. I knew from the first day I did a podcast episode that I wanted to see where I could take it. I started with interviewing local business owners to learn their success story. That’s one thing that has always intrigued me, getting into the mind of successful people, hearing their story and how they found success through their hard work and determination. Everyone has a different story but ironically they have so many similarities. Successful people are the hardest workers in the room, they have a vision and a dream and never stop working to be the best in their field. I took notes and continue to do so and apply everything I learn from these amazing people and use it on my own road to success. I will never take all the credit, these people have truly inspired me. Now I am proud to say my show has evolved into interviewing athletes and celebrities but I never forget about the small business owners. Recently I was hired to host one of the largest MMA podcasts in the country and it has been an amazing experience so far.
To understand where I’m today, I have to talk about the past. Back in 2013, I was the mom of a toddler and a preschooler. I had been an immigrant and out of the corporate world for two years. I was a stay-home-mom with everything to succeed, but I was failing tremendously at it. Every day at 5 pm, I felt like the walls of my home started to close into me like a prison. At the end of every day, I felt miserable and trapped. I was full of negative feelings, regrets, and complaints that were hurting my ability to be a loving mother and a good partner. I urgently needed to change my course, but my vision was blurred.
One day organizing my closet, I found a pair of earrings that belonged to my Abuela Olga. They were a beautiful pair of big and bold green hoops. When I picked them up in my hands, I immediately remembered what she always said: You should never leave home without earrings or red lipstick.
That day I decided to wear those earrings to pick up my kids from daycare, and everyone had something sweet to say about them. The next day, I wore the same earrings with a pair of shoes that were also forgotten in my closet. On the third day, I wore the earrings, the shoes, and a dress and went out to sign up for an English conversation class.
I did not know at the time, but that was the start of a new me. Little by little, I started to feel right about my day, and at the same time, the 5 pm nightmare begun to fade away. A lot of self-discovery and emotional work has happened since then. However, I still remember vividly the awakening moment that started with that pair of earrings. That small flame of empowerment started the course that helped me regain the energy to be a better me, a happy mom, and a joyful partner.
