Buzz Interviews Brittany L of Sweet Arburn Beauty

Growing up as a young lady, I’ve always had a passion for hair and make-up. I started off doing family and friend’s hair at a young age at no cost because I love to make a person feel and look beautiful. However, life set in, so my dreams were set aside, and I became an employee. I gave that company my all. Therefore, working for a company that didn’t appreciate me was hard to manifest.
Nonetheless, in February 2019, the company I worked hard for chose to lay me off. At this point, I knew God had a plan for me. Consequently, I made a promise to myself that I will no longer put my all in someone else’s business. However, I will be putting my all in my own business. I made a promise to myself to start doing what I love, which was hair and make-up. I never completely let my side hustle go, which is hair and make-up because I knew I was good at what I do.
Meanwhile, my clientele starts growing. I realized I was paying out so much money when it came to buying make-up and hair bundles; I thought to myself I need to start my cosmetic line and hairline. Hence all this money I spend, I can invest in myself. Therefore I started researching different companies and vendors until I found the one that represents my brand. Indeed this was one of my most significant accomplishments and the right thing for me. Everything I accomplished in 2019 became real, so Sweet Arburn Beauty had been growing ever since. So I started small, and now I have 25 different colors of matte lipstick and two eyeshadow palettes. Also, my cosmetic line is animal cruelty-free products.

I have always been a writer. However, my “published author” journey began five years ago. Four years after I started the journey, my book ‘Through the Fire’ was born. As a cancer survivor twice over, undergoing 18 surgeries, being molested by a boy scout leader, and a lot more, I knew my story had to be told. As the eldest of thirteen siblings, growing up, I instantaneously and subconsciously discovered that growing up sooner than later was the determining factor that has shaped my life.

In retrospect, leading a sheltered way of living was inevitable but normal, up until my vibrancy became unexpectedly shifted at the age of twelve. The plague of bad news surfaced when my parents and I received a diagnosis of having a bone tumor, in which was expected by the doctors to end my life or living my life as a leg amputee.

However, this distressful event of receiving my diagnosis was nothing short of the storms I had faced in years to come; cancer, two failed marriages, multiple near-death experiences, alcoholism, non-illusionary premonitions, and more.

My soul purpose in sharing my story is to guide individuals through the fire and into my journey as a survivor of many events that were deemed to be my breaking point of life itself. My hope is for people to master the art of humbly doing the same and Intentionally breaking the back of suicide and abuse.

Art started as a hobby. But initially, I was in competition with my sister in a sense. I have a hidden talent of singing and so does she. But she also does art, so I figured “if she can do what I do, I can do what she does” and I say down and painted a watercolor sunflower. Instantly I fell in love with painting. I’d always been drawn to acrylic pour and resin videos but had never tried them. The next thing I painted was Chuckie from Rugrats. And it was hit. Everyone loved it. I began painting other animated characters and knew I’d found my passion. I began to eat, sleep and breathe art. I tried my hand at pouring and knew that was for me. I love the unknown factor of it. I can pour whichever way I want and it’s still going to come out completely different than I could’ve imagined. And no two pieces can ever be identical. I love it. Now I do tumblers, coasters, and anything else i can get resin to stick to!

I moved to Chicago at 22 years old with hopes of continuing my dance career. I danced for the University of Minnesota in college and was a Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader while in school. When I initially moved to Chicago, I continued my professional dance career through dancing as a Chicago Luvabull. My original day time job was in advertising and then I pivoted and worked at a ballroom studio so that I could learn beyond the traditional forms of dance. After that experience, I saw an opportunity to bring my vision into the community with starting All About Dance in 2005. I wanted to create a dance studio that fostered an environment that was welcoming, fun, and where people could feel good in their skin. I started by teaching at local schools and camps and focusing on inclusivity, the love of dance, and a judgement free zone for children. I knew that those values as a foundation would serve to those that wanted to pursue a more serious dance curriculum and evolve into a competitive and company dance program.

At the same time that we created kids classes, we recognized that there were tons of young women who had to give up their dance experiences for a career or simply because there was not an avenue to be a dancer without it being centered around fitness or highly technical. That need, one which I could directly relate to, evolved into Dance Forever, our adult program. These are Dance classes where everything dance is central to the experience from fitness, technique, wedding dance and fun dance parties. We believe that dance is the most mood enhancing, body re-centering, endorphin-releasing, fat burning, body strengthening, community bonding exercise in the world. Our teachers are professional dancers and our students can connect emotionally with the energy from dance that is so valuable to them while getting a great workout and connecting with others.

I was born and raised in Portmore, Jamaica. Growing up in the island, you are surrounded by the art of music. The mixture of music is typically always brought to us in the same way, through a mix by a DJ. No matter the genre I was surrounded by this and I took a liking to it from a young age. I was introduced to the DJ program, Virtual DJ, at the age of 11 so I took time out to study and learn how to use it. At the age of 13, I migrated to America, few months pass after the big move and I finally got a laptop of my own. The first thing I did was download Virtual DJ and went back to practicing. I always DJ for fun around my young age and never really looked at taking it serious. I would make CDs for friends and family but thought nothing of taking it any further. I even used to link up with my friend from school Deejay Shaneo to practice a little bit. I kind of put DJing to the side and began to pursue rapping. I was about 15/16 at the time.
Not that the whole rapping thing didn’t work out for me but I always felt like that wasn’t something I wanted to do. DJing was always my first and life forced me to stop ignoring it around the age of 17. I was at house party and a close friend of mine DJ Jon Jon called me up and asked me to take over for him because he got tired. In that moment, Deejay Keem was born. I was still in high school but me and Jon would get small gigs here and there, always working together. We then graduated and Jon went away to college on a track scholarship but I stayed local and continued DJing.
My freshman year in college, I threw one of the biggest pool parties in palm beach county and this is what led to everyone knowing who Deejay Keem was. I was getting booked more now on the local party scene but was decided it was time for me to level up. I picked up the Serato DJ program and moved on from Virtual DJ. I wasn’t as efficient with the new program as I was with Virtual DJ. With knowing this, I took a few months to be mentored by my brother/partner DJ Slim. I practiced under his guidance for months until he gave me the approval that i was ready. We began DJing together basically as a duo. 2 years passed, then Slim and I decided to expand and make an entertainment group. 2016 marked the birth of Upbeat Ent, this consisted of DJ Slim, DJ Luga, Deejay Keem, DJ Flvko & VeeEazy, we started doing great work together. Few months later DJ Flvko ended up moving to Orlando but we still kept trucking. We collaborated with my long-time friend Deejay Shaneo, whether it was splitting gigs, booking each other or just simply hanging out practicing having fun. During this time, I picked up graphic Designing as well and got really really good at it.
I graduated from Palm Bach State college in 2017, I was their on-site DJ for all events but it was time for me to say goodbye. I then took my studies & talents to FAU. This is where I worked more with my good friend, DJ Redwood. We became like brothers after a while, and he introduced me to the south Florida crowd of Dade & Broward county. We became great partners who work together from time to time similar to me and DJ Slim but different. The relationship between me and DJ Redwood is like a Tony Stark – Peter Park while me and DJ Slim is Goku and Vegeta if that makes any sense. A year passed and my long time friend, Deejay Shaneo ended up passing due to a car accident.
I wanna say Oshane’s passing drove me to be a way better DJ than i ever was before. This was also an inner transformation for me which is why I started using the name Deejay Keem instead of DJ Keem anymore. I want to continue DJing while carrying the fire he always had.

n 2016, after 15 years as a Spanish and sign language teacher, I decided to join the Orlando arts scene by opening an art space called Mills Gallery.

At that point in my life, I knew very little about art. I decided to remain honest about that and surround myself with a team of experts who would guide and advise me at every turn. Gallerist Lael Dewahl showed me the ropes about how to run a gallery, and designer and artist Victor Bokas designed the logo as well as the official look for the gallery. I worked with local filmmaker Marvin Welch to create a series of films that introduced my gallery to Orlando and showed them what my overall goal was.

My wish was to create a gallery that was attractive to young people, as well as a place that was available to and representative of all artists, regardless of their sex or gender. Mills Gallery became a pioneer project for gender equality in the Orlando arts, and we strive to exhibit an equal amount of female and male artists annually.

In 2019, I decided to bring curator Kyle Eagle on board on a permanent basis. Eagle is one of the important movers and shakers in the Orlando area, and already within a short year Mills Gallery has soared to new heights. As of 2020, we have turned Mills Gallery into two galleries, with the second one, LUMP Gallery, named after the fat little dachshund that was the gallery’s mascot until his passing in August of 2019.

Starting in 2017 I also branched out in other areas of the entertainment world. I, along with my co-host, the artist Marla E, host a web series called KISS MY ART. Marla and I had a podcast called LIVE ARTS that ran for two years as well as a radio segment on the Connections show on IHeart radio. Starting in 2019, Marla and I started doing a live version of our web series at the renowned MAXINE’s ON SHINE restaurant in Orlando.

In late 2019 Kyle Eagle and I began production of a podcast called THE EXPERIENCE WITH CHRIS FIO starring break-out local talent Chris Fioravantti. The podcast premiered in February 2020 with some of the highest ratings ever experienced by its distributing company PFT Media.

Nearly 30 years ago, two Cuban-American kids in Miami met (twice for the first time) and started a friendship that has stood the test of moving away, law school, relationships, marriage and life in general. A lawyer and ad guy might not seem like the likeliest duo to compliment each other and host a weekly podcast, but we decided to do it anyway. With the closeness of brothers, we tackle current events, pop culture, personal stories and anything else with viewpoints that could only be shaped by Miami as much as each other. In short, a typical week’s episode can be about anything, everything and absolutely nothing all at once!

Buzz Interviews Steven Spencer of Melody Ave

The concept of Melody Ave was originally established in 2011. “To provide a stable platform for musicians and artists of all types to collaborate.” – Spence

In November of 2014, the first physical location was established at 1101 Clare Ave in the Warehouse District of downtown West Palm Beach, just southwest of Cityplace and Clematis (one block North of what is now Grandview Public Market and Elizabeth Ave Station).

At that time, in collaboration with Dreamhouse Studios, Creative Productions, and El Borde Studios, we formed Sunjamz. Our main event took place on the first Sunday of every month. Sunjamz was a springboard for hundreds of local artists. It helped them develop into the artists that we know today. The Sunjamz crew morphed into a production company that can handle small, medium, and large scale events. A recent gig was providing a stage for the largest event on Clematis, Moonfest.

In March of 2017, Eric Ivan joined the Melody Ave mission as a partner and we expanded to almost 1500 sq./ft. With the addition of a neighboring space. The new space that is being built out for recording, rehearsal sessions, and private events was completed in 2019.

In August of 2019, we had our grand opening and official Melody Ave iOS and Android app launch. Over 250 people were in attendance. During the evening, vendors and artists in the parking lot created an enjoyable atmosphere for all while Raised By Wolves, Doorway 27, and Homegrown Rebellion took the inside stage. Craig Mcinnis, Kyle Smile, Kelcie Mcquaid, FABS, are muralists and artists represented in and around the space. We are now available for booking, visit our website at https://www.melodyave.com

Buzz Interviews Jehan Assria

I have always had an interest in music. After high school, I chose to pursue it professionally. A customer at my work recommended that I contact Gwyn Sanborn (vocal coach/good friend.) I went through 2 years of vocal training with her, and always expressed ideas that correlated with production and songwriting. That’s when she introduced me to Thomas Barsoe (CEO/Founder of OC Hit Factory). Thomas has taught me many valuable lessons in music, and even knew the financial struggle I was going through. With that, he made it possible for me make music in a professional studio with great quality. As a matter of fact, he was the one that told me I am better off as a songwriter. That was when I decided to master my craft in songwriting. Through Thomas, I met Lars Halvor Jensen (CEO of DEEKAY Music/my mentor.) Lars has given me opportunities to grow in music and business. Throughout all of this, I went to school for business. A friend in my class told me to reach out to Andria Schultz (CEO/Founder of Network Smart), who taught me the value of networking and finding my “why”. I also had a professor, Peter McLaughlin, who told me to reach out to producers in LA, and thats when I reached out to Synematik (producer at Sony ATV and my mentor.) I drove to LA to meet with him and at first, it seemed to be a meeting of him just giving me advice and us going our separate ways. I knew I had to do something quick to continue to work with him. That’s when I said “Let me say something. Steve Jobs said if you want to be the best, you have to work with the best people. So with that being said, I’m going to work with you!” That completely changed the direction of the meeting, and from there we have written several songs together- one that caught the attention of Wendy Starland (who discovered and developed Lady Gaga.) That led to a songwriting collaboration with Wendy, Synematik, and I. I truly believe everything happens for a reason. I crossed paths with these people to guide me to success in the music business. Most importantly, they believed in my vision.

I began to take an interest in music when I was 6 years old. I played the drums in church for over 12 years and also started to take an interest in singing. Because my dad was a music major in college, he made sure that I always practiced and became the best musician that I could be. As the years went by, I started to pick up on guitar, both electric and acoustic, piano, percussion and all the brass section. When I was in my middle school years, I performed at Disney as the act Simba, from The Lion King. I did many performances for the school as well, which included, pep rallies, dinner banquets and benefit concerts. High school approached and I started to take music more seriously. To set myself apart from other musicians, I began to study jazz composition, different genres of music and the laws of music theory. Since there were laws to music, I wanted to make my music stand out by BREAKING the laws of theory and began to create my own unique sound. Ever since I’ve made this discovery, I am blessed to say that I have performed with many different artist around the world, at Carnegie Hall and have also done some work with Pepsi and the Make A Wish Foundation. I have also been able to develop powerful connections with top music executives around the world.
