Meet Adodo Robinson of Chéz Délali Salon and Day Spa

Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like.

When my mother moved us to Germany, I noticed that there was absolutely no Hair salons offering services for my type of hair and I got tied of taking the train on the weekends to Paris to get our hair done I decided to teach myself how to braid so I could do our hair. From the start one of my goals was to keep our hair healthy and not cause what I later learned is Traction Alopecia. After I got better at doing different styles my mother started one the first salons in the German town we lived and my sister and I started working and helping her that’s when I noticed how much I loved transforming and beautifying ladies. After moving to the US in 2006 with my family I decided to continue my path in the beauty industry as it given me the flexibility I needed being an Army wife, I became licensed in the US in 2008 and opened my salon in 2012 after renting booths in several other salons and not being able to conduct my business the way I envisioned it. Chéz Délali Salon is a dream come true and being able to add Délali Robinson Cosmetics in 2016 definitely boost my business confidence. To be able to share the journey and be part of our clients life and transformation is a privilege and priceless.

Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

Not having a background in corporate business structure caused me to hit couple of hick ups and being taken advantage of but I am not one to just surrender so I seek out people and programs to help me navigate through the business aspect of being an entrepreneur. As for the personal and people struggles I have to say I am blessed to have my family and friends support and for all others that might not be on your side we must learn to take a lesson from those experiences and move on despite the hurt.

Tell us about your business/company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?

I am a licensed cosmetologist, Educator and Entrepreneur who owned a full service salon in Matteson, IL
We specialize in Healthy Hair Care and offer services from Braids, Hair coloring, Chemical services, Makeup to spa services in addition I also offer Makeup classes to everyday women and inspiring MUA. Délali Robinson Cosmetics is the extension to our beauty services. We offer hair and makeup services for weddings, photoshoot and fashion shows

what makes you special?
I am the special component of the business, I know the type of environment, service and care I like to experience when visiting a salon or MUA for my personal need so I make sure to have that same standard for our clients because at the end of the day sometimes that is the only time we have to relax and just being ourselves.

and what differentiates you from your competition?
My salon is an open salon with a personal suite flair. All services are by appointment only which means no seating around waiting to be serviced. All services are timed well which gives our clients the liberty to plan their day accordingly. We offer complementary wi-fi, beverage options and snacks as a token of our appreciation as well as birthday incentive. The team and I with the help of the community organize an Annual Prom Dress Giveaway to give back.

My customers love the salon environment, knowledge of my staff, professionalism of the staff and the care we give each one of them.

How do you, personally, define success? What’s your criteria, the markers you’re looking out for, etc?

Success to me is the ability to reach my attended goal however long it takes.
