Meet Ashanti Harris
I started off dancing in kindergarten, doing West African with my fav dance teacher Mrs. Pilar Lowden. I danced for her almost every year till 11th grade. She trained me in tap, modern, contemporary, ballet, disco.. etc. She expanded my entire dance knowledge! After I went to college, I started my own dance team, called Hypnotik, where we performed at multiple events at the school and even had shows in Atlanta. All the while, I started wanting to take up acting. I started doing extra work in Atlanta when I could which was rare.
After I finally graduated college, I quit my job, moved to Atlanta and started training, doing more extra work, and researching, getting to know more about what I should be doing to expand myself and how I should be doing it. After training and going to many auditions, after auditions, after auditions I landed a SAG role, on American Soul Season 1 thanks to 411South Talent and choreographers, Fatima Robinson and Adrian Wiltshire. Keep in mind I was 5 months pregnant at the time! Kudos to me. After that I knew there was in store for me and since then I’ve continued to work through them and for them for different movies, tv shows, and events that I’m eternally grateful for because that allowed me to be SAG-Eligible
Now, I am still dancing, acting and have worked in several independent films, short films, web series and looking forward to the first SAG speaking role.
No, it hasn’t. Nothing worth having is ever easy. The biggest obstacle was having a baby in the midst of obtaining a solid career. I kept working up until I was about 7 or 8 months pregnant, with my job and dancing and acting.
I had a C-section so that held me off getting back on my feet for a second but once I did and got settled into motherhood, I got right back into it.
Another obstacle has been making sure I’m still working enough and making enough money to pay for my daughters necessities and bills without having a 9 to 5. Im fully self-employed and I still wouldn’t have it any other way in the midst of troubles.. Its not always the easiest but I’m very disciplined when it comes to money and I save alot. I would say I’m doing great now since motherhood has fully settled in.
I am a walking creator/entertainer! I am an upcoming actress. I am a dancer. I also write poetry and sew clothes. I’ve recently started a YouTube channel “Ashanti Harris” and a podcast “Chats with Ashanti” so that people can follow and stay updated on the things that I have going on. I’m proud of all of the accomplishments I have made so far in the dance and acting industry. Every little step is a step closer to the goal. I’m proud that I am well rounded as a company.
define success as being happy in whatever field you want to be in and in life.. For me personally, any goal I set for myself and surpass, I’m successful. I have money in my pockets, food to eat, and a place to sleep. Of course, I have huge goals that I have yet made it to but that big goal will come from me setting and surpassing a lot of smaller goals. My main goal, of course, is to be financially free and able to show myself and my family the world. That’s when I will feel complete. Ultimately, success if you feeling comfortable and happy with where you are no matter what.
