Meet Darius L Tigner-Jackson of ResCare Workforce Services / WorkSource Atlanta – Atlanta, GA
Darius L. Tigner-Jackson is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and the only child to his parents Jacques A. and Cheryl D. He was raised by his loving grandmother Gloria A. Tigner in the Historic West End Community. He was taught at an early age that education is the key to success and received his education in some of the most historic schools in Atlanta, Georgia – J. C. Harris, E. L. Connally, J. E. Brown, and B.T. Washington to name a few. He is a 2013 triple major graduate of Atlanta Technical College – majoring in E-Commerce Marketing, Human Resource Management, & Paralegal Studies. He furthered his education by receiving his B.A. degree in Managerial Science and Human Resource Management from Strayer University in 2015 and is a recipient of the Paralegal Studies Diploma from Penn Foster Career School in October 2017. My career in Human Resources started in June 2009. I was laid off from The Atlanta Journal Constitution News Paper. Like anyone would be, I was lost – like what am I going to do now.
I went online to Google, the closet employment agency that could help me find a job ASAP. I found Robert Half International Staffing Agency, I went in the next day hoping for the best, Walked in and was interviewed by the Division Director, she stated you have great experience and skillsets. Unfortunately, we do not have anything within your desired salary, but you can work at our front desk for a few days until we find you something. That opportunity granted me the experience to automatically decided what my passion and field of study for college would be. Working at the front desk, I saw so many people like myself who walked in looking for career guidance and employment to help them get back on the right track to success. So, instantly I decided to further my education by enrolling ton Atlanta Technical College – Human Resource Management Program. Finally, entering Atlanta Technical College, I knew exactly what I wanted to major in. The Management & Supervisory Development field is what I wanted to learn more about, due to the fact it dwelled more of the Human Resource Management arena I enjoyed. As of May 2013, I became an alumnus of Atlanta Technical College, having majored in Human Resources and earning the title of Human Resources Management Specialist. Then, moving on to Strayer University, entering the Bachelor of Business Administration program with a minor in Human Resource Management. I have had a great experience and could not be more delighted in May 2015 to finally say I am a college graduate, all thanks to my grandmother Gloria pushing me. My original purpose in furthering my education is to start my own resource center to help citizens of all ages to gain life skills, interpersonal traits, and satisfactory employment with a reputable company.
My life thus far has been like my favorite ride at Six Flags Over Georgia called “The Mind Train.” In February 2009, my Grandmother Gloria was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and my mother had a massive stroke within two weeks of each other. Being the only grandchild and child, I rearranged my schedule to be of assistance to them both. Not having any medical training, it is amazing how God gives you all the tools you need when your faith is strong. All of this could not be possible without the loving and caring support of my Tigner Family. Being a recent college grad and trying to gain experience in my field, I accepted several contract jobs to enhance my background. Every time a contract ended, I was devastated, but through God’s grace, I never had to go a whole month before my next contract assignment came through. Unfortunately, my parents could not support me in all my endeavors. But I had a dynamic Grandmother Gloria and my Tigner Family who filled in the gaps and pushed me to be successful.
Since December 2009, I have been helping individuals with:
1. Career Counseling – Helping individuals with having options and assessing with they have a passion for to direct them in that role for employment.
2. Job Readiness and Interview Skills Training – Ensuring individuals know the importance of a Cover Letter, Resume, and Thank You Letter is when you are in the market for employment.
3. Computer Skills Training – Showing individuals how to utilize the various job boards and how to read the job posting thoroughly to ensure they meet the qualifications and following the directions on how to apply per the hiring manager states.
4. Resume Workshops – I have conducted several Career Workshops at various Atlanta Fulton Public Library’s, that cover an array of topics from the different types of resumes to email etiquette.
5. Job Placement Assistance – Passing job leads off to individuals who meet the qualifications. Numerous staffing agencies send me job leads weekly, which I post them to my social media platforms.
For people who know me personally should know that my greatest asset for a living is God, who is the head of my life, but after him would be my Grandmother, Ms. Gloria Ann Tigner. This Phenomenal woman has been the reason why I am here today. She has pushed and still pushing for me to reach the highest Plato God has planned for my life. She teaches me that I have a purpose and a gift to share with the world and let know man hurt or bother.
My background consists of Christianity, Community Engagement, and Music, in which my family members include of Pastors, Singers, and True believers of Christ. Also, to add, I come from a large close-nit Christian family. My motivation of pushing me to reach greatness comes from my 4 (four) aunts Thee Living Legend Rev. Minnie Tigner-Robinson, Mrs. Mary Tigner-Henderson, Mrs. Virginia Tigner-Miles, Mrs. Dianne Tigner-Williams and not excluding a host of cousins; whom I am so grateful to have such a strong asset of love and care in my life.
