Meet Mike O of Drippy K Song of the Day
My name is Mike Oellrich and I am a former Drummer, Rapper, Producer and Global Marketing Specialist at Sony Records. I have ALWAYS enjoyed making music, but my skills were limited in what I could create (aka I was mediocre at all those endeavors). My true skill and What I knew I always had at a very young age was a special ear for talent, for new trends in genres, and being able to dig and find up and coming musicians. I was an A&R at heart, but as the music industry started to shift and YouTube became the new A&R, I had to find another way to show off my talent. Thus, creating Drippy K song of the Day. The goal was simple, a song a day, every day to help new artists really shine. Eliminating the clutter of other blogs who make 15-20 posts a day or a new music Friday style playlist where an emerging artist has to share their single with 120 other songs at a time. People give back to their communities in all types of ways, I felt that helping out emerging artists was my way to give back. I enjoy the excited DM or Tweet I get when I tell an artists they are getting a full day feature. I love music, I love sharing music and I like watching an artist blow up and being like, yeahhhh – saw that one coming!
Not at all. A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor so I do embrace it. I just have dealt with the same start up problems and negativity anyone starting something new faces. I try not to focus on the struggles of things very much but I guess naysayers, gaining a good rep in the biz etc..
Our Mission for our listeners is to curate the best possible playlists with the newest and most outstanding new artists that may not have broken just yet. We want to help the people who love finding new music, but may not have the time like they used to or not know where to look. We want to bring you quality artists, we want to be genre-fluid and we want to help you discover the next new musical act so you can brag and say you heard them first!
Our Mission to the Artist is to ensure they get the shine they deserve. To give them a FULL day to shine on our platform, to be heralded and uninterrupted by new posts or trying to cram new a bunch of new artists into a day. We want to slow things down and really let an artist show off their music and truly be the star for a day.
I think we are most proud of using this platform as our way to give back to others. We understand the struggling artists idea because we were one. So I enjoy giving them the proper exposure they deserve and look for.
I think the fact that we give the artist an ENTIRE day to shine, eliminate the clutter of trying to squeeze them in with other posts, other artists really helps us out. I think artists really enjoy the fact that they get the whole day to themselves.
I live by a few quotes in my life and I believe that “How you do anything is how you will do everything” success to me is consistency. Being consistent in what we deliver, in what we promise and in how we operate. I like fulfilling what I promise and hope for the same in return.
Criteria for how we select a song is all feel.
1. Does it give us goosebumps when we hear a vocal performance
2. Does it make us bob our head. that feeling when a track just hits you the right way and it is undeniable.
We want to help artists. We want to give them exposure and visibility and we want people to check in our page every day cause they are excited to hear a new great song or an artist they have never heard of!
