Meet Renata Steiner of Nataworry Photography
I created an LLC in 2006, Nataworry Photography, and did wedding and portrait work on the side of my full time corporate marketing job until 2009 when I took on photography full time. I’m self taught thanks to online tutorials and a couple of in-person classes. Since 2010 I’ve been volunteering for Seattle radio station 90.3 kexp.org such that I photograph world famous musicians/bands that play live in the studio. It is there that I’ve honed my ability to create compelling portraits, mostly of multiple people (vs. solo artists) in as little as 5 minutes. Pre-pandemic, my days were filled with business headshots/portraits, lifestyle (people at work) and corporate and private event photography.
Every year it’s a struggle in that I’m always in search of, or competing for new business, and working to hang on to repeat clients. It’s stressful, but at the same time incredibly fulfilling because I love portraiture, whether it’s one on one or capturing candids of people from afar. While there have been times I feel like I’ve been in a bit of a creative slump, I still love it more than anything. It’s particularly challenging at the moment given the pandemic because as a non-essential business I’m legally not allowed to work. As a result, I started a fundraising project that as of mid-May, 30 days after the project started, I’ve raised nearly $11,000 for my local neighborhood food bank. I’ll continue to work on this portrait project in the hopes of raising as much money as I can until the stay at home order eases and families go back to not being home pretty much all the time.
Nataworry Photography, LLC Portrait, headshot and event photography is my 1-woman business. I’m known for putting people at ease pretty much instantly and creating compelling portraits that are interesting and look like the person’s true self. Getting people to relax immediately upon meeting them before photographing them quite literally a few minutes later and creating a portrait that they love is my expertise. I’ve photographed world famous musicians and those portraits have compelled non-famous people to hire me for their portraits.
Success is being able to pay the bills, along with people being not only satisfied with, but also especially pleased about the portraits I create for them. Simple. Real. Clean. Easy.
