Meet Thomas Slovinski of Handsome Boy Banks
I grew up in Lansing, MI. The hometown of Magic Johnson as well. I have always loved music my mom put me on to great bands growing up even though at the time I wasn’t cool with her playing it too loud in the mini van while dropping me off at middle school. I was always interested in entertainment I started rapping in high school when another MC took me under his wing. I like to do as much as possible so while I was always writing songs I was also writing jokes. I started performing stand up and moved out to Los Angeles in 2011 to pursue a new life. I had a show with my roommates out of our house and at the Upright Citizens Brigade for a couple of years. After that ended I decided to really focus on music.
I sold everything I owned and came to Cali with a carry on. I slept on couches in living rooms or patios for the first 3 years I was out here. I worked 7 days a week for 3 straight years non stop. Doing whatever I had to do to stay out here and pursue my dreams. It’s been tough, but I’m extremely grateful because all of those struggles have shown me how strong I am. Plus it helped me to create a better work ethic to buckle down and handle my business.
Handsome Boy Banks is like my hip hop superhero. Thomas is the bartender, comic, barista etc. It allows me to have a voice to share and say things I might not always feel comfortable talking about. Plus it gives me the confidence to go out and have fun and try to uplift people. Make fun music mixed with honesty about life, getting older and not giving up on yourself.
I consider my life a success already. I try to wake up every day and be appreciative of what I have and the people I have in my life. As far as a career in music I just want to be able to make music full time and tour. Connect with as many people as I can and work for myself doing what I love.
